My photography journey! A little Interview.
Hi Guys if you would like to read a little bit about me, my photography journey and couple tips, I had a pleasure to talk about that with lovely business coach for female photographers Letitia Ranieri ! Check her blog out
Anna is a newborn photographer, wife and mum, living in London, England. She opened her business, Anna Morawska Photography, 3 years ago. Providing excellent customer service for her clients is her first priority and she's a firm believer that boundaries are a must-have! She's gearing up for huge success, not only for her, but for others; she's opening her doors to fellow photographers who want to further develop their skills, by providing workshop training and she'd love to be able to start a foundation for less fortunate children.
She's really an amazing person. Oh, and her artwork is absolutely beautiful, too!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS?
In early 2013 I started as hobby landscape photographer, when many of my friends ask me to photograph their babies and my passion to photograph children started and continues to grow.
The birth of my son helped me truly see how beautiful a new life is, and how precious the fleeting moments of childhood are.
Photographing him was nothing short of amazing, and I "caught the bug"; the bug of being a Newborn Photographer. I decided to not go back to my "day job" in real estate after my maternity leave ended. That is how I have started photographing local babies.
There is nothing more amazing then photographing a brand new baby. All those sweet small details that just came into your life and absolutely captured your heart. From their tiny toes, to their perfect little nose. Those first few weeks with a newborn just fly by and there is no second chance at capturing those sweet early moments!
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET THINGS GOING IN THE BEGINNING?
I have spent so much time just learning about newborns and those special 2 first weeks of life! Because of this, I have been able to create a loving, quiet, peaceful, and warm environment that newborns thrive in! I am extremely comfortable working with newborns and handling them. For whatever reason, since I was little, babies have always loved me!
I still continue to develop my photography skills by taking part in newborn workshops and looking for innovative ways of moving my business forward.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY OF RAISING BRAND AWARENESS AND ATTRACTING YOUR IDEAL CLIENTS?
Now I mainly have clients from recommendations as I do not advertise a lot but when I did start that was a different story.
I had volunteered for NCT (the UK's largest charity for parents) and organised some coffee mornings for new mums as well as parents to be evenings that really helped to spread a word about my business among local mums which were my ideal clients.
HOW DO YOU FIND A BALANCE BETWEEN RAISING CHILDREN AND RUNNING A BUSINESS?
While my passion and dedication to photography consumes much of my time, I am also a wife as well as a mother to a beautiful boy of my own who is 3.5 years old.
I need to be very organised and manage time effectively which is not an easy task! I used to do sessions only at weekends as my boy was with me all the time! Now he finally started nursery, I do sessions during the week but I am trying to work only 3 days per week and when he goes to sleep I start my night retouching marathons!
You need to set some boundaries so you don't go crazy .
Now weekends are only for a Family time.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT RUNNING YOUR OWN PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS?
The list is long but there are advantages and disadvantages when you are your own boss.
I am really happy that I found something what I love to do and I can call it my work. It’s so special to record the memories of our children’s lives, those important steps; their early smiles, their attempts at walking.
I am happy that I can capture those details as a keepsake for the rest of my clients' lives. My goal is to help every mother and father treasure those moments forever.
I love that finally I can set up my working hours as I hate early mornings!
I love that nobody is telling me what to do anymore!
But this for some people could be a disadvantage as you constantly need to keep motivate yourself and stay organised so you still meeting all your deadlines without boss standing over your shoulder.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR BUSINESS TO GIVE YOUR CLIENTS THE BEST EXPERIENCE?
I love to make them smile when they look back on the photos. To achieve that I always have some pre-session consultations to match their expectations.
We discuss favourite colours and prop choices so they feel like they involved in the whole process from the start.
For me the most important is part is customer service! That is what differentiates me from my competition. I share some tips with first time mums as this is a new situation for them and they sometimes feel lost. I also have welcome packs with some special offers for my clients from baby friendly local business. I throw some free incentives but I can't tell you what they are as everyone will ask for them after this interview! (haaaa!)
WHAT IS YOUR OVERARCHING GOAL FOR THIS YEAR, AND WHAT STEPS ARE YOU TAKING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN?
I moved my business to new area couple months ago so will be looking for more collaborations with local businesses.
I have more and more enquires about workshops so may be that is what I am going to start to do in 2018. I have some plans already but nothing set yet.
My total ultimate goal is to use my business to do something bigger not for myself but for others. I would love to set up a foundation to support less fortunate children. I am always inspired by people who are successful and they know how to share their hard earn money with others - I want to become on of them as well. This is what really motivates me!
I also want to somehow spread public awareness about the dangers of climate change and I was thinking to donate a percentage of every client's fee to The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation for now.
We all should do this anyway who doesn't love Leo and want to breath fresh air? I hope he is reading this interview! (Yeah, I wish ha!)
WHAT ADVISE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A FELLOW PHOTOGRAPHER WHO IS STRUGGLING TO PUSH THEIR BUSINESS FORWARD?
Do not give up! Faith it till you make it! I think we should start putting faith behind our dreams and in ourselves! So let's change our fake to faith! Also, you can always come to me for a workshop. For whatever reason, since I was little,I had a feeling that I can be a good teacher but only now I discovered in which
